Teaching Performance Modeling in the era of millennials

Performance Modeling (PM) teaching started in the early 70s and reached its peak in the 80s. From those years and until today computing systems have deeply changed. Moreover, in the last two decades an economical crisis has involved the educational system, while the new generations show new learning modes. In this time, new literature has developed about learning and teaching. Rarely highlighting the critical issues. Higher learning is changing its role maybe unawares. In this paper, the author starts from a close examination of the state of the art of PM courses in Universities around the world and tries to highlight the main critical issues of teaching nowadays. The paper has not the aim to give answers but mainly that to open the way to reflections and discussions.
