My research focuses on the use of machine learning to solve medical problems. Specifically, I do research in how to learn accurate models when (1) the training data is limited, and (2) the data is acquired from different sources. Among the strategies that we use to address these challenges are to provide more information per training instance (leveraging on domain-specific knowledge), and to use techniques from the field of domain adaptation. My work combines traditional machine learning algorithms, deep learning, and probabilistic graphical models.
